Welcome to the Faculty of Dentistry within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova!

Within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova, the Faculty of Dentistry holds a well-defined position, being recognized for its high academic standards, its involvement in scientific research, and its active international presence through partnerships, academic exchanges, and collaborative projects.

The institution has an apolitical character, and its activity is carried out in accordance with the principles of university autonomy, based on a clear distinction between academic and administrative functions. At the same time, the relationship between these components is well structured, ensuring efficient management and the support of high-quality education. The Faculty of Dentistry within the University of Craiova offers the following study programs:

  • Dentistry, taught in Romanian (integrated Bachelor's and Master's program);
  • Dentistry, taught in English (integrated Bachelor's and Master's program);
  • Dental Technology (Bachelor's degree program);
  • Implant-Supported Prosthetic Restorations (Master's degree program).

The teaching and research activities are carried out within three functional departments, bringing together 90 tenured academic staff members:

  • Department 1: Dental Prosthetics II, III and IV; Oral Rehabilitation; Prosthetic Technology; Dental Materials; Morphology of the Stomatognathic System; Pathological Anatomy; Pharmacology; Radiology and Imaging in Dentistry; Medical Informatics; Internal Medicine; Tooth Wear; Laser-Assisted Rehabilitation in Dentistry; Metal-Ceramic Prosthetic Restorations; Gerodontology.
  • Department 2: Anatomy; Physiology; Pathophysiology; Histology; Cytology; Operative Dentistry; Endodontics; Pediatric Dentistry; Oral and Dental Prevention; Oral Pathology; Oral Health; Bioinstrumentation; Professional Organization and Legislation; Dental Practice Management; Health Promotion – Epidemiology; Hygiene; Medical Ethics (Deontology).
  • Department 3:Dental Prosthetics I; Dental Aesthetics; Occlusology; Periodontology; General Surgery; Anesthesia and Intensive Care; Oral Implantology; Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Surgical Devices Technology; Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics; Orthodontic Appliances Technology; Otorhinolaryngology (ENT); Clinical Anthropology; Oral Rehabilitation of the Periodontal Patient; Medical-Surgical Emergencies.

Currently, the Faculty trains:

  • 580 students - Dentistry
  • 161 students - Dentistry (taught in English)
  • 93 students - Dental Technology
  • 29 students - Master’s program in Implant-Supported Prosthetic Restorations
The faculty’s infrastructure is modern and appropriately sized to accommodate the number of students, complying with national and international standards in medical education. It is continuously expanding and being upgraded through constant investments in state-of-the-art dental equipment, in line with the institutional development strategy.
The academic year is structured into two semesters of 14 weeks each. Each semester carries a workload of 30 ECTS credits, and students benefit from an average of 28 hours per week. Knowledge assessment is conducted through written and oral examinations, held during the examination sessions provided in the curriculum.
At the end of their university studies, students take the final graduation examination (Bachelor’s/Master’s thesis defense), after which they obtain the right to practice in their field of specialization. The study programs are accredited, and their quality is ensured through institutional mechanisms of approval, evaluation, and periodic monitoring.
Graduates have the opportunity to continue their professional training through residency programs, Master’s and doctoral studies, or postgraduate courses, all integrated into the faculty’s educational offer.
A constant objective of the Faculty of Dentistry in Craiova is the development of postgraduate training; in this regard, advanced training courses, workshops, and scientific events are regularly organized for medical and academic staff.
